hello, hello.
Explanation of name:
I think that my husband (a Turk) finally trusts me (not a Turk) to cook anything - even Turkish food - even pilaf! Proudest culinary moment to-date: "No, [wife], you make the Turkish rice just fine, go ahead." Swoon!
But when I cook, trust or no trust, he sometimes says, "Just be sure you really kill the onions, okay?" In English, you'd say "saute," or maybe even "saute well," but in Turkish, he uses the literal verb for "to kill," like, "Really saute the hell out of those onions, okay? Kill them!"
It's so cool that Turkish approaches its food in such an active voice.
Edited to add in 2011: This journal is "friends only," and I am increasingly privacy-conscious. If you've tried to add me without introducing yourself, I won't add you back. If you think we should know each other, please DO introduce yourself to me somewhere; I'm really not a grouch. I will add almost anyone who is NOT my obvious coworker. But I'll just as quickly unfriend someone who never interacts with me and/or never posts themselves. I write very personal stuff, and I don't like having silent observers; it kind of creeps me out. I'm here for interaction, not just to entertain.
(I am much nicer than I sound here.)
